German midfielder Didi Hamann says he has no intention of leaving Anfield to join Spanish giants Real Madrid following recent speculation that they are planning a summer swoop for him.

Didi told the official LFC website: "I recently extended my contract here. I am very happy at Liverpool and I have no intention of leaving.

"There is no reason for me to want to leave because we have a bright future ahead of us here. Everyone wants to be a part of it, and so do I."

Meanwhile Liverpool's acting boss Phil Thompson has commented on Hamann's ability.

"Didi plays a key role in front of the back four and he's made it his own now," said Thommo.

"Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira do a similar job and are great players, but I don't think there's anyone as consistent as Didi Hamann."
