Midfielder still has future at Anfield

Liverpool insist that Nick Barmby is still a vital member of the squad despite his forgotten man tag.

Barmby suffered a miserable season due to injury and lack of first team opportunities when fit and a number of clubs are showing an interest in him.

However, assistant boss Phil Thompson says he's not leaving despite the speculation.

"Nick Barmby is still here. He's a vital member of the squad at the moment," said Thommo.

"His chances have been limited towards the end of the season but we're still happy with him. We will be looking into next season to go with Nick Barmby."

On the eve of Robbie Fowler's departure to Leeds, Thompson insisted he was not for sale and that he wouldn't be leaving the club. That doesn't mean Thommo is telling porkies, it just means that things can chage in football in next to no time and of course Barmby also has a say in his future.
