At the time he was part of Gerard Houllier's first choice strike force alongside Michael Owen, and Liverpool were starting to look the part having beaten Everton 3-0.

But five minutes into the Premiership game at Blackburn the Czech striker broke his leg in a challenge with Markus Babbel.

It has been a long road to recovery but Baros will soon be back in Gerard Houllier's plans.

"There's still some thought in my head about the ankle. You have to remember it was broken so I'm still thinking about that," Baros said.

"Perhaps I still feel a little bit scared to tackle, but I'll be okay. That will get better when I play. Mentally I feel better and it's just a question of time and playing to get over that.

"Physically, I feel okay now. I've played my first game and I feel good about myself.

"Of course, it's been very hard for me not playing for five months. I couldn't train or do anything. Watching football is not enough.

"I felt really down because this has been my first major injury. I've never had anything like this before.

"I was working in the gym and pool every day, or cycling, but not doing anything special. I didn't really know what to do with myself other than get home from training and go for a walk around the city centre.

"What every player really wants is to be out there playing, but for the last three weeks I've been in full training and everything's starting to get better."
