The French side have fallen in stature since the likes of Arsene Wenger and Jean Tigana made them a credible force both at home and abroad.
It is unlikely, though, that Houllier would be willing to make such a move. He feels he is capable of completing his plan at Anfield, and the Liverpool board are prepared to give him time to do so.
