Moores in a more comfortable position

The last two years have been tough for Moores, who offered to reconsider his position if the club didn't improve both on and off the field in the last 12 months.

According to Chris Bascombe in the Echo:

The Reds are 'back in the black' with a pre-tax profit of £9.5m - a stark contrast to the losses of £21.9m in 2004 when Gerard Houllier and his back-room team departed.

The post tax profits of £7m are the best since 2002 and eclipsed those of Manchester United, while the club's turnover increased 32 per cent from £91.6m to £121m.

Last year's Champions League success has massively helped finances, with £28m added to the coffers but the club's retail revenue increased by a mere five per cent, largely because of Reebok's refusal to pay £7m to the club due to a delay in securing a shirt sponsorship deal last May.
