"To come here and get the result that we did is a great achievement," he said. "It is a tough place to come. I think they've won all their games at home against Real Madrid and Roma.

"So to come here and get a result like that is good for the club. We'll see who we get in the next round now. It's great to be involved.

"Some big teams have gone out but we know we're outsiders but anything can happen and we've got a chance."

John Arne Riise was also thrilled, and admitted it was important to silence the critics after defeat in the Carling Cup Final.

"We owed it to the manager, the fans and the club itself," he said. "The club belongs in the top five in Europe. There's eight teams left in the Champions League and we are one of them.

"Of course we want to go as far as we can, for the manager aswell."

Goal hero Milan Baros added: "We knew we would have space up front and we punished them so it was important to score the first goal and kill off the game."
