Morientes joined Valencia when the transfer window opened at the start of the month after only eighteen months with Liverpool. Rafa Benitez has explained why he was happy to let the former Real Madrid striker return to Spain.
"When I signed Morientes it was because he scored goals, he could hold the ball up and was good in the air and he had the qualities we needed," said the Liverpool boss.
"Unfortunately he never played at his level in England and the move to Valencia is good for him."
