Morientes looking forward to Euro campaign

Morientes has won the Champions League with Real Madrid and was top scorer in the competition for Monaco during 2003/4 but was ineligible for Liverpool's triumphant campaign last season as he was cup-tied.

Liverpool will begin their defence of the European Cup on July 12th or 13th and Morientes cannot wait to make his european debut in a Liverpool shirt.

"After being in the stands for the whole of the last European campaign, I'm overjoyed about being able to play in the Champions League again," he says.

"I want to be top scorer in the competition again, as I was with Monaco, and win the trophy with Liverpool.

"Uefa have treated the whole thing very sensibly and come up with a very fair solution. I am happy, but I never thought they would not let us defend our title. It would have been very sad and unjust and it would have set a bad precedent. I have spoken to my team-mates and everyone is overjoyed at the situation."
