Morientes on the mark in vital Red win

Charlton took the lead through Shaun Bartlett after former Red Danny Murphy had forced a corner. The goal came against the run of play as Liverpool enjoyed the best of the early stages, with Steven Gerrard hitting the bar and Baros and Garcia coming close.

The woodwork again came to Charlton's rescue when John Arne Riise hit the bar after 56 minutes. However, it was a temporary let-off for Charlton and Morientes scored his first goal for the Reds to pull them level five minutes later.

The Reds continued to dominate the game and got their just rewards when Riise scored the winner with twelve minutes remaining after good work from Morientes.
