Morientes wants January move

Morientes is Rafael Benitez' first choice striker when he moves into the transfer market next month and he will have been boosted by the player's declaration of intent to leave the Spanish giants.

Although Liverpool are favourites to sign the player there may be competition from Monaco where Morientes had a successful season on loan last year.

"To play for Liverpool would please any player and they have a technical coach in Rafael Benitez who I have always appreciated.

"But there are a lot of things to sort out first. It is the club's decision.

"I have not spoken directly with Rafael Benitez but I know that Liverpool want me and they have transmitted this to my agent."

Morientes added: "I had a good time in Monaco last season but I have not heard anything from them lately.

"My situation is difficult, but Madrid know they must do something about me soon and talk with me.

"It all depends on Real Madrid. My only concern is to play football and I am not doing it here in Madrid. That is why I am not happy at the moment in Madrid.

"This summer I remained because Camacho promised me I would play. Now with Garcia Remon in charge he has different views and I am the striker who is missing out on first-team opportunities."
