Mourinho's representatives apparently contacted Liverpool earlier this season to sound out the possibilities of a move, although that initial approach was rejected.
It is believed that Mourinho has concerns about working under Roman Abramovich at Chelsea, and may be persuaded to take the Liverpool job, knowing how well Houllier was treated by the club.
