The 26-year-old England international's return to the Liverpool side has coincided with a swift upturn in the club's fortunes with impressive wins over Premiership sides Leeds United and Blackburn in both league and cup action in the last week.

The former Crewe schemer, who has endured a difficult campaign blighted by injury and loss of form, has netted in both games and believes that Gerard Houllier's attacking style will now reap its rewards on a more consistent basis.

Murphy said: "Winning games breeds confidence. We had suffered a dip and been through a bad spell but we've changed our style of play and now we have got back to winning ways. Long may it continue."
