Murphy relishing Leeds test

The 26-year-old England international has endured a frustrating start to the season, with both injury and loss of form thwarting his attempts to regain the form that saw him crowned player of the year last season.

With the visit of a struggling Leeds side, though, Murphy admits that he will draw upon some of his greatest performances for the Reds against the Yorkshire outfit.

Murphy, speaking to the club's official website, said: "Last year was a good one, one of my best goals in fact, and I remember scoring another decent one against them a few years back, also at the Kop end.

"Long may my record against them continue but I think what is more important is me getting myself back in the first team picture. I've taken my fitness for granted in the past and it's only since I've been out injured that I've realised how lucky you are when fully fit. So yes, I've got good memories of playing against Leeds but more importantly I just want to play."
