Murphy wants to be at the centre of things

"You can get involved in the game more there," he said. "You can try and dictate play.

"If the game isn't going your way you can try and grab hold of it. Sometimes when you play wide you are a bit alienated. You are dependent on other people getting you involved in the game."

Murphy is happy with Liverpool's pre-season build-up and is ready for the forthcoming season.

"The progression has been good in pre-season. We've been away in Switzerland, Asia and Holland.

"Personally I have felt stronger as the weeks have gone on. I know it sounds obvious but it doesn't always happen that way.

"I am raring to go and looking forward to the start of the season. The fitness is the main thing in friendlies.

"If you go into the season feeling right it doesn't half give you a good foundation for the rest of the campaign. I found that last year.

"The results and the performances do help because that releases confidence. So if you've got the mix of both you are in a better position."

Is Danny better in the centre?
