The wife of former Liverpool manager Bill Shankly has died.

"I was very saddened to hear of the death of Nessie Shankly," said the boss.
"I will always appreciate that when I was in hospital last year that she took the time to write me a lovely letter of support which was a huge encouragement to me during my recovery.
"I was touched and proud that she had made that gesture and it is a letter that I will always treasure. I want to express my sympathy to the whole family. She will be sadly missed by all of us."
