New Anfield gets green light

Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott will not call the massive scheme in for scrutiny, which would have led to considerable delays, meaning work can now begin on the project.

"This is brilliant news for the city of Liverpool and is about more than a football stadium," said council leader Mike Storey.

As part of the project, the site of the club's existing stadium will be redeveloped to improve the Anfield community.
