New keeper in dreamland

His famous father, former West Ham and England defender Alvin Martin, gave young David one piece of advice about his move to Liverpool.

"My dad always said to me that the people behind the scenes are the people who are the heartbeat of a club, and if I was ever in any doubt then I should use that to judge if a move felt right.

"I think he meant that you could tell by the people on reception, in the canteen and behind the scenes whether the club had the right environment.

"I never really understood that until I came to Liverpool. I'd been at Melwood for no more than a day but it felt as if I'd been there for years.

"Everyone knew my name, knew who I was and were all checking how I was getting on. It felt right from the first minute.

"I'm here to learn from some of the best in the business and having family on Merseyside has really helped me settle and concentrate on the football.

"Even this far into my career at Liverpool I'm still in dreamland."
