But his performance at centre half on Wednesday, and also in the previous round against Southampton, could have saved his Liverpool career.
He now looks likely to get anotgher chance when Liverpool play Aston Villa in the quarter-finals.
"Igor has revealed himself in the position of centre-half," claimed Gerard Houllier. "It's the second time he's played in the role for the first team and he's been very good on both occasions.
"The longer the game went on against Ipswich the stronger he became. I think this could be the position for him in the future but we'll have to wait and see. We'll be looking at him in the role again."
