New signing El-Hadji Diouf has revealed that he wanted to sign for Liverpool because he wanted to play for a "family club".

"Liverpool is a great club with a great structure," said Diouf.

"Everybody knows of Liverpool in France and I feel it is important that I moved to a family club just like at Lens.

"The atmosphere is very good and I feel I am in an environment where everybody loves the club, which is important to me.

"The welcome I received from the fans was very warm. I knew the fans were great already from Gerard Houllier and I am just so very happy that I have signed for Liverpool.

"At previous clubs I have always tried to give back what the fans gave to me. I want to do this for Liverpool fans too.

"I will work hard for them and try to treat them, to score many goals and reward the fans for their support in me."
