"Obviously it would be a lovely thing for Liverpool to go after you. The club will always have a special place in my heart," he said.
"If it happens, you would want to go because it's your boyhood club and to prove yourself in front of 40,000 Scousers would be brilliant.
"When they let me go, Steve Heighway sent me a letter saying he hoped I proved him wrong.
"He told me to keep going, work hard and hopefully I would get there. It was a really nice letter and I still have it."
