Norwich couldn't cut the mustard

A fine first half display saw Rafael Benitez's side score twice - the first coming from a stunning strike by Milan Baros on 24 minutes and the next a deflected shot from Luis Garcia three minutes later that beat Green in the Norwich goal.

The Reds could have scored more as they dominated the half, but had to wait until the 64th mimute for their third and final goal.

Xabi Alonso, Liverpool's star man throughout the game, rolled the ball to Djibril Cisse from a free kick 30 yards out.

The Frenchman struck the ball low beyond the keeper to score his first Premiership goal at Anfield.

With the game already won and a Champions League clash on Tuesday night, Benitez then decided to rest his star men. Diao came on for Alonso, Traore for Cisse and Biscan for Warnock.

Norwich left empty handed and must wait for their first Premiership win, while Liverpool's three points puts them in seventh place with a game in hand on all but Everton above them.
