The Spanish midfielder will now miss tonight's reserve clash at Middlesbrough and is almost certainly ruled out of Saturday's game with Manchester City.
"We are all desperately disappointed for Antonio because this injury has come at such a bad time for him," said club spokesman Ian Cotton. "We will know more about his injury on Thursday afternoon."
