Former Leeds United boss David O'Leary has revealed that Gerard Houllier was one of the first people to call him following his sacking at Elland Road.
"Gerard Houllier was his usual self, ringing me from France as soon as he heard I'd lost my job to offer sympathy," said O'Leary.
"Then he called back at nearly midnight saying he'd been thinking about it all day and that he just had to talk to me again because he couldn't understand why I'd been sacked. He couldn't fathom it out."
When Gerard Houllier was rushed into hospital with his heart condition, O'Leary sat at Houllier's bedside all night in a fantastic show of care and support for his friend.
