On this day...

I was 14, it was my sister's 1st Communion Day, and my mam wouldn't let me wear my jersey.

In the days when they're awarding knighthoods, MBE's, OBE's, sainthoods and any other stuff that they can for things like this, where Sly Sports only seem to employ Scots or guys with speech impediments (Alan Smith, a few weeks ago, I swear, "fowth goal for Villa, Gaweth Bawwy the scower"). Before football had the profile it has now, when guys stayed on their feet when someone walked past them, and when the quality of most piches was poor(Stamford Bridge, where we clinched the title the week before was like a ploughed field), but the football was good.

Anyway, just thought I'd mention the anniversary.

After going behind, Rushie and the original Skippy, the one who could play a bit and gave his all, Craig Johnston, had put us in front, Jan Molby, class act, still the best passer I've ever seen, played a reverse ball to another legend, Ronnie Whelan. Ronnie went on a run, checked on the edge of the box, played a flighted, searching cross to the back post. Who was there, but the best goalscorer in our history, Rushie, who controlled, and blasted past Neville Southall, breaking a camera, & thousands of Everton hearts, in the process scoring my favourite goal of all time.

Jocky lifted the cup, Kenny celebrated with a big smile and his arms aloft (if it ain't broke, why fix it), and we Never Walked Alone once again.
