Owen is now one of the top ten goalscorers for England, level wiht Geoff Hurst.

"I had a golden chance in the first half which I don't know how I missed but we killed the game at the start of the second half," he said after the game.

"I'm not even half-way to the main target. I won't think about it until I'm in the 40's."

Sven Goran Eriksson's men now face a tough test against Turkey in Istanbul on 11th October, with the winners guaranteed a place in the Euro 2004 finals in Portugal.
