Owen backs Gerrard

Michael Owen, a man not unfamiliar with the burden of expectation, believes his Liverpool and England team-mate will soon recapture the form that has made a hero for club and country.

Michael said: "I've told him he'll do something in the next few games, like a great pass or have a brilliant shot, and everything will come back to him.

"When you're not playing to the best of your ability you always feel a bit down and I'm sure Stevie feels that way at the moment.

"I don't think anyone will be daft enough to write off Steven Gerrard. People are a bit cuter then that and although it's fair to say Stevie isn't at his best at the moment it's just a matter of time before he is.

"It seems to me that if you're a player of his ability in this country when you're not playing well it will be highlighted more. That appears to be the way."
