The Anfield marksman had argued that Flynn had duped his mother Janet into handing over money for work that was never completed at the home, a claim that the accused strongly denied.
Police spokesman Richard Ewels said: "Police can confirm they are investigating the death of a Stoke Heath man."
Detective Inspector Pete Clarke added: "The matter is being treated as an unexplained death and the coroner has been informed."
