Owen expects Stevie to star

With Sven Goran Eriksson's men preparing to face defending champions France in a much-anticipating group opener at Euro 2004 this Sunday, talk of a confrontation between the Arsenal captain and his Liverpool counterpart is sure to dominate many column inches in the days ahead.

While both undoubtedly prove the driving force for their club and country, Owen believes that Gerrard's attacking talents make him a 'one of a kind' who does not bare comparison with other midfield stars.

Owen said: "Maybe in time he'll develop into a sort of player like Keane or Vieira. But for now the manager thinks that would be cutting off his legs as he's got so much to offer going forward.

"Stevie is so good attacking wise that it's hard to compare him to Vieira. I don't think there's any midfielder who does what he does as well. He's one of a kind."
