While the Reds suffered through the continued absence of their talismanic striker, Owen believes England may reap the benefits of his relative inactivity in Portugal next month.
Owen said: "I started off flying this season, getting something like ten goals in ten games, and then I got a freak injury. It kept me out for a couple of months and that knocked me about.
"But I'll take the positives out of it - everybody else has probably played a full, hard season in the Premiership.
"I'm coming in as fresh as a player who's only played 35 games or something compared to some players who've played 50 or 55 games.
"Unfortunately for Liverpool, I haven't been able to play the full amount of games but hopefully it will work in England's favour."
