Owen happy with victory

The Liverpool striker had been under pressure after failing to score from open play in the first three games of the season, but has silenced his critics with a brace to give the Reds three valuable points.

"At Anfield Everton play for the draw and put men behind the ball but they can't do that here," he said. "We had a lot more chances than we have in previous games.

"It's nice to go onto international duty with a win behind us and have a couple of weeks break because there's been a lot of pressure over the last few weeks."
