The 23-year-old England star added Rush's European goal-record to the less illustrious title of leading scorer for Deeside schools he claimed during his formative years and he has revealed that he is ready to surpass many more of the Welshman's glittering achievements.
Owen said: "I beat one of his records when I was a kid for Deeside schools. He was always a great idol of mine. He has got plenty more records in the books and I will have to go some to beat those.
"I work with Rushie at the training ground and he is a tremendous influence on me. He is always urging me to go out and break his record and if there is one person who will be happy for me, it is him."
