Owen ready for rugby repeat

The 24-year-old forward watched on in awe as Clive Woodward's men dramatically defeated Australia to lift the World Cup last November, and he is eager to unite the country once more by being part of a trophy-winning football side at Euro 2004.

Owen said: "Like everyone else, I was cheering on the rugby team against Australia and getting caught up in it all. I watched the celebrations in Trafalgar Square as a supporter and it was a great time for the country. It was amazing.

"Now it's up to us to keep it going. Rugby is a great sport but, in our country, football is the most popular sport. So you can imagine what the reception would be like if we were to win anything. The crowds would be twice as big, maybe 10 times as big. It would be incredible.

"Our country is hungry for that, you can sense it. But every country is like that and there can only be one winner so we have to give it everything."
