The prolific forward is entering the final year of his contract but is now expected that the 24-year-old will agree a two-year extension to his contract before the end of the month.
Owen said: "We're getting closer but we're not quite there yet. We had a meeting in New York recently and we're due to have another one next week. We're in no rush.
"There has been a lot of talk about this contract but the truth is the speculation began well before we started talking to the club. We have only had four or five meetings so far which is quite normal for new contract negotiations."
