One 8-year-old Liverpool supporter was last night left jumping for joy.

Charlotte Oldham, who named her racing greyhound pup after her hero Michael Owen, watched as 'Owens Girl' stormed home on her racing debut.

'Owens Girl' opened at around 7/4 but she was quickly backed down to the 4/5 favourite.

The dog won by 3 lengths and like Michael Owen, left the rest standing during the event.

"I was really excited before the race but it was nice seeing her wearing her racing jacket," said a delighted Charlotte.

"I've spent loads of time playing with her but tonight she looked like a proper race dog with her coloured jacket and muzzle.

"I was really pleased when she recognised me when I went to see her before the race.

"Afterwards, I gave her a big kiss and said goodnight. I love her and miss her already. She'll be in bed now but I will visit her tomorrow.

"I'll have to tell Michael how she did - hopefully he was watching himself."
