Owens happy with result

Liverpool have one foot in the FA Youth Cup final after Saturday's 4-2 first leg win over Newcastle at St James' Park, to the delight of John Owens.

"Going into a second game with a two-goal lead is a bonus but it is not to be taken for granted. We will be doing everything to get to the final again," said the Academy coach.

"We started really well. In some of the past games we haven't started too brightly, but we got our passing game going quickly. Although we didn't score straight away and you worry that although you are on top, you are waiting for the sting, where the opposition break. But, thankfully, we made the breakthrough and did very well throughout.

"We are pleased to have won the game, but having been 3-0 you get a little disappointed getting pegged back to 4-2. But playing Newcastle on their home ground and winning 4-2 you have to be happy going into the second leg.

"But now we have to make sure we don't feel that the game is won. We have to treat this separately. It is a different situation. We have got a two-goal lead, away goals don't count, but we have to be careful."
