The Latvian international, who was set to start at Anfield, placed his future in serious doubt by not showing up for Palace's crucial match with fellow promotion hopeful's Leicester City.

Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has revealed his anger at the actions of the player.

He said: "I was about to get in a helicopter to go to Leicester when Alex phoned our chief executive at 1pm and told us he wasn't playing.

"He had been asked the previous night by the manager if he was fine to play and he said yes. He's not injured. He refused to play, and there is no condoning his action. None. He has let us down."
