Former France captain Jean-Pierre Papin is hoping his friend Gerard Houllier will look after himself and not over do it following his return to the Liverpool dug-out.

Papin, who met Ged during the Liverpool manager's recuperation, said: "I was surprised because I met him a month ago and he was not so good. I was very happy to see him but surprised.

"He is a great man and somebody in football who loves his players.

"Gerard lives for football but he must change. It will be difficult for him but he must change something and be more calmer.

"He must be careful in future because life in football is very intensive.

"But it as a good thing for a lot of people that Gerard is back, the players want to win something for him.

"I think Liverpool can be a surprise for the Champions League."
