Parry happy with Anfield finances

Parry made the announcement as the Reds celebrated a new six-year sponsorship deal with current kit manufacturers Reebok, which could be worth more then £100m to the Anfield club.

Parry said: "What has been seen is what can go wrong for clubs, and it is something you have to be mindful of.

"But we are pleased with the course we are set on and are confident that, from a business point of view, we are going in the right direction.

"We unveiled a healthy profit for the previous 12 months, we are not spending beyond our means, we have not got unmanageable debts by any stretch of the imagination, so we are comfortable with the direction we are going in.

"We are all fully aware that the financial gap between those clubs who are in the Champions League and those who are not is actually bigger than the gap in being in the Premier League or being relegated from it.

"Not being in the Champions League can cost you as much as £15million a season."

While all seems rosy in the boardroom Parry is fully aware that results on the pitch have not been so favourable. The Anfield chief executive, though, insists that Gerard Houllier still has his full backing.

''Without a doubt we are extremely happy with everything Gerard has done for us and we have absolutely no doubts he'll be with us for the foreseeable future.

"There has never been any discussion about a change of direction, we are more than happy with the job he is doing, and, just as importantly, he is more than happy to be at Liverpool and have a shared vision - we know where we are going and we won't be deflected from it."
