Parry ready to back Houllier

With the Reds lying a disappointing sixth in the league table, having already suffered the ignomy of a first phase Champions League exit at the hands of Basle, voices of dissent concerning the Houllier regime have been hard to ignore.

Parry, though, insists that one bad season cannot alter the ongoing vision for success that he shares with Gerard Houllier.

He said:"Gerard's record speaks for itself in terms of what he has achieved over the last four years. There has been steady progress right the way through. This has been the first real setback but you have setbacks in any business, particularly in football.

"You never have a period of continued guaranteed success, that is just not deliverable, so why on earth would you contemplate anything other than pulling together and making sure we get through it.

"We know at this club the expectations are always incredibly high, of course they are. We understand that and we wouldn't have it any other way frankly, if you can't stand that sort of pressure then you shouldn't be here.

"We had progressed over a year coming second, leaving us with just one place left to go. The only way of improving was to pick up the title and sadly it doesn't seem that will be the case this season but we will regroup, refocus and double our efforts to get there next time."
