Liverpool's £12m offer for the Portuguese striker was rejected on August's deadline day but the Reds are still keen to bring him to Anfield.
"After we failed to get him we have continued to follow him and monitor his performances and progress," he said. "We still need a player like him and we appreciate his qualities."
