Partridge hoping to impress Benitez

Partridge, who scored for the reserves in his second game back from injury last night, knows it will be difficult to force his way into the first team squad but is ready to give it his best shot.

He said: "I'm not stupid. I know it's going to be hard to break through into the first team because there are so many good players here.

"I'm just hoping the manager will give me a chance at some stage because I want to show him what I can do. I want to show the fans what I can do as well because, despite being here for a long time, most of them won't have seen me play. I've had too many injuries and too much bad luck but hopefully that's all behind me now.

"The new boss has given some of the youngsters a chance this season and that's great to see. I've felt good in the reserve games I've played so far this season and I'm going to do my best to impress him and the staff.

"I still believe in myself and I still think I can do well at Liverpool. There's no doubt in my mind about that. I don't want to set myself too many targets for this season but I'm confident I can make progress.

"I've not spoken to the manager about my future yet because I've been injured for most of the time he's been here. I'm sure that conversation will take place over the coming weeks and months. I'm just determined to give it my best shot at breaking through and being a first team player here. If I didn't think I could do that then there'd be no point me being here."
