When the young winger became the country's most expensive teenager when he moved from Notts Count to Arsenal for £2million he was asked about his dreams and ambitions.

His reply? "To one day play for Liverpool".

Life at Arsenal wasn't easy and he spent time on loan at Watford and Leeds before settling at Birmingham.

Seven years later he's finally got his wish and is expected to line up for Rafael Benitez's side for their Champions League qualifier with Maccabi Haifa at Anfield on Wednesday night.

"It was a great confidence boost to hear Liverpool were interested but to actually be here and see it happening is even more of a thrill," he said.

"It was the best news I've had for a very long time and probably the best moment in my life.

"My best will come at this club because I'm playing with top quality players. This is the best club in the country and the best to be at.

"If I can't do it here I can't do it anywhere."
