Pennant joins Pompey

The Reds midfielder has signed a six month loan deal with the FA Cup holders which will take him to the end of his Liverpool contract. Pennant will then be available on a free transfer and will bag a big signing-on fee when he joins his new club.

"Tony [Adams] has given me the opportunity to come here and hopefully play first team football," he said.

"I played with him at Arsenal, so I know what he's like. He was desperate for me to come which was very encouraging for me to hear.

"I want to repay that confidence by coming here and doing the best that I can.

"There are a good bunch of players here in every position and hopefully I can get them some good results."
