Pennant's attitude praised

Pennant was left out of the squad to face Arsenal in the Champions League in midweek but rather than sulk about it, he asked to play for the reserves and won a recall to the first team yesterday.

"I am very happy with Jermaine because he will obviously have been disappointed not to be involved against Arsenal during the week," said Benitez.

"It was a very big game and it was also against his former club so I understand that he won't have been happy.

"But instead of complaining, the first thing he did was ask to play for the reserve team. We did not ask him to play, he asked us.

"My coaching staff told me that not only did Jermaine play well against Everton, his attitude was also very good and he was very helpful to the younger players in the team."
