"Jamie knows two wrongs don't make a right, but he's already had a punishment and been sent off," said Taylor.
"Jamie can't make more of a public apology than he has done. He should be respected for that.
"You'd hope the football authorities punish those who perpetrate the trouble, not people on the receiving end.
"We don't want Jamie's reaction - but players, referees and officials are in a vulnerable position.
"The real problem here is spectators throwing coins, missiles, objects - call it what you will - on to the pitch. This must not happen again."
