Liverpool's 3-1 win over Portsmouth at Fratton Park yesterday was the Reds' eleventh league win in a row, their best sequence of results for over fifteen years. The win also meant Liverpool finished the season with 82 points, their highest points total since the Premiership began.

The Pompey win, coupled with Chelsea's defeat to Newcastle yesterday means the Reds finished the season nine points behind the champions. This is an improvement of 28 points from last season, or nine more wins and a draw.

If the Premiership season had started in October then Liverpool would be champions as their form since they lost 4-1 to Chelsea on october 1st has been better than any other team in the league's. All of this means the Reds can go into next season confident of challenging for the title.
