The former Liverpool striker will return to Marseyside with new club Athletico Madrid on November 1st for a Champions League group stage game and it's a match the Frenchman is looking forward to.
"For me it's the biggest game in my career," Pongolle told official publication LFC magazine.
"It's going to be very, very hard, but I can't wait to go back to Anfield - it's something special.
"We are both two really good teams, but Liverpool have experience over us and are favourites because they are always in the competition.
"But I think this season, Atletico Madrid has a very good team and we have started well and beaten good teams like Schalke, so a lot of teams wouldn't like to play us."
