The French striking sensation, who arrived at Anfield alongside fellow teenager Anthony Le Tallec, marked his Premiership debut with a fine goal to seal a much-needed 3-1 win for the Reds.

"He is very exciting. He reminded me of Milan Baros when he came onto the pitch, said Houllier of his exciting young compatriot.

"He needs time to settle but I told him in training on Friday that he has stepped up a gear and was ready. He played very well for the reserves midweek scoring twice, and deserved a chance.

"Florent is very quick, he can beat players and has a good leap and is a good header of the ball. He took his goal very well and I'm pleased for him."
