Poor Smicer hits back at our Tommy

Liverpool midfielder Vladimir Smicer has hit back at KopTalk columnist Tommy Smith for having a go at him about his poor performances this season.

Smithy blasted for telling it as it is
The Czech midfielder has taken offence to Tommy's words which were written in his exclusive column on this site back on April 29th. At the time, Tommy stated that the inconsistent Smicer was "one of the poorest players I have ever seen to put on the famous Liverpool shirt".

Smicer has now naturally decided to defend himself.

"I think there's a vendetta against me in Tommy Smith's column which isn't helpful when you are trying your best," said the Czech.

"Sometimes I wish he would introduce himself to me and tell me what he thinks to my face. I would respect this. If he wanted to shake my hand I would do it. I would just explain I try my best for Liverpool and I don't believe I'm the poor player he says I am."

In fairness, Tommy, who bleeds LFC, has only pointed out what the majority of supporters have done all season and that is that the player is inconsistent and fails to deliver as often as he should - it's not personal. There is no doubting his ability but let's not forget that Smicer was signed to replace Steve McManaman - there is no comparison between the two players.

Smith captained the Reds under Bill Shankly after starting out at the club as a member of the groundstaff at the age of 15. He won the title with Liverpool 4 times, the FA Cup twice, the European Cup, the UEFA Cup twice, the European Super Cup and numerous charity shields. He was the first Liverpool captain to lift a European trophy and he also scored in the 1977 European Cup final making him the first ever Liverpool skipper to lift the trophy. As one of the most famous Liverpool fans around, we think that gives him the right to say what he wants.

We all have different opinions, we would all pick different teams but to suggest that Tommy has some kind of agenda against a player that has not performed consistently is pathetic. Even the biggest Smicer fans have to admit that he hasn't. If Smicer can't handle the comments, there is one way of shoving them right up Tommy's arse and that is by using every opportunity on the pitch. The ball is in your court Vlad.
