"We all know he's a real good character out there. I've had a couple of run-ins with him in the past but it'll be nice to have a character like that on our team," said captain, Gerrard.
"To win the league and other trophies you need to have characters who have also got the quality - and Craig has definitely got that.
"As a player you can be too nice. All the best players that are around, they are top quality but they also have the character to go with it - that's the way I like a player.
"I've spoken to Craig a few times already, he looks really hungry and really happy to be here. He's buzzing.
"It was important the manager bought a player who was going to get 20 league goals. With the players around him, Craig could be that player for us. Now we must create chances for Craig and make sure he scores lots of goals."
"He is working very well but sometimes I need to tell him to control his energy. He has ability and passion. I am very impressed with him," added Benitez.
